Big Bend National Park, Texas

This is what we got up to before leaving Langtry.
After leaving Langtry, we headed for Big Bend National Park

The landscape began to change, the "piles of gravel" began to look more like mountains.

Again, there were very few small towns, and many abandoned dwellings.  There were many arched entrances to ranches with the ranch name at the top of the arch.  They were all gated entrances with long dirt roads leading to what seemed like nowhere.  I know that somewhere behind one of those hills must be a house.  We finally came upon a larger town, Marathon, pop.455.  It is the home of the Gage Hotel, built in 1927 by a man from Vermont.  It still has the original woodwork, columns, fireplace, etc.  It was very unique.

As we drove, every turn produced different views, every one being amazing.  Unfortunately, pictures don't do it any justice.

This was taken from the information center at the entrance of Big Bend.

The views were absolutely amazing.

At some points, we were over 6,000 above sea level.

We didn't go the southern most tip, but some day we want to go back and go on some of the trails with the Jeep to see more of it.
