Here we are in Memphis, and of course we had to visit Graceland. I didn't care for Elvis in his glitz & glitter days, but I sure did like him in the 50's and 60's. You have to admit, he had a good voice.
He bought Graceland at the age of 22. He didn't name it, it already had that name and he liked it so didn't change it. He died at 42 so he lived there for 20 years.
When you walk in, on the front right is this living room and music room beyond that.
Behind that was his parent's bedroom.
To the left of the front door was the dining room. Behind that was the kitchen. I had to chuckle, on the counter was a green 40 cup cofee perculator just like mine. Behind that was a step down family room with a fireplace. We were allowed to take pictures as long as we didn't use a flash. I guess the constant use of flash cameras fades fabrics, etc. I got quite a few pictures that ended up blurry. The slower shutter movement was more sensitive to any of movement.
There was a huge fenced in yard with at least 4 horses.
And of course, Don loves horses. I guess he just likes all animals.
We left Graceland to cross the street to all the museums.
We first saw the vehicle museum, which included cars, motor cycles, even a John Deere. This is a mid 50's Cadillac. Scary thing is, I remember these.
I also remember these old juke boxes. I remember putting nickels in them.
This was the "Lisa Marie", you should have seen the inside, he even had a bedroom.
This was a much smaller airplane, the "Hound Dog II"
We then went into downtown Memphis. We found the river boats. If it wasn't so cold, we would have gone for their hour and a half cruise. That's going on the list for next year.
You can see the very wide Mississippi River.
This is Beale Street, it's a toned down Burbon Street.
