Red Bay, Alabama is the home of Tiffin Motorhomes, Inc. (We have a Tiffin, Phaeton) Three of our windows have a brocken seal so moisture gets between the 2 panes of glass and they always get fogged up. Don called them last summer and they told him to give them a call when we got close to Alabama and they would order new windows and replace them. Here we are.
When we first got in town my first comment was "Why do they call this Red Bay, there's no water?" I found out that when the town was incorporated and they had to quickly find a name they chose "red" for the red clay soil here and "bay" for the bay trees in the area. I love finding stuff like this out.
Their service area has 49 work bays and 93 full hook up sites so you can wait in comfort in your own motorhome. Our appointment was for Monday but we got here last night so they were able to take us today. They only had time to replace 2 of the windows so they will replace the third Monday. We also have a spot where the paint bubbled. That will also be fixed Monday.
Part of being here is getting a tour of the manufacturing plant.
That was very interesting. It takes about 30 days to complete a coach from start to finish. Before the economy crashed, they were turning out 13 per day. Production slowed down to 3-5 per day and they are now up to 9. They have real good quality coaches and great customer service.
Check out all the wiring on this front.
These 2 guys are working on the plumbing in the basement, where you empty your waste tanks and fill your water tank.
Here a finished one before it goes to the paint shop.
