Auburn, Indiana

We went to Auburn, Indiana today (we both grew up in Auburn, Maine and now live in one of it's bedroom communities)  We went to see the Duesenberg Museum.

You might recognize the profile in the window.

1931 Cord Purchased at the Paris Autumobile show in Paris by Paul Berns, husband of Jean Harlow.

1929 Duesenberg Model J-116 Sport Phaeton.

It was driven by Elvis Presley in the 1966 movie "Spin Out".  The Duesenberg was used in the film as the tow vehicle for his race car in the film.  Elvis was so taken with the car that he attempted to purchase it.  Unfortunately it was not for sale.

1936 Auburn.  1936 was the last year of production for the Auburn automobile.  During the course of the 1936 model year, Auburn added additional models to the lineup of behicles including a hearse, an ambulance, a limousine and an airport limousine.  Despite this broad lineup of vehicles, total sales for the year were a mere 1950 units.  With annual losses totaling more than one million dollars, The Cord Corp., which was the parent company of the Auburn Automobile  Co., decided to discontinue the Auburn line.

1930 Duesenberg, what a beauty.

1931 Duesenbert features the most famous variation of the Murphy Convertible Coupe body, the disappearing top.  When the top is down, it is stowed under the deck lid so that none of the fabric or folding mechanism is visible.

1932 Duesenberg

Another view of it.

1932 Auburn.
Purchased in 1932 in Ohio, the car was properly stored and maintained for several decades by the original owner.  I has 8,800 original miles.

1916 Rauch and Lang electric car.

1904 Auburn

Earliest Auburn know to exist.  Total production of the Auburn Automobile Co. in 1904 was approximately 50 vehicles.  Price when new $1,250.00

1933 Checker Cab

Check out the prices.

1909 McIntyre truck.

And the 1909 McIntyre car

This museum was huge, it had over 100 cars.  This is looking down at part of the first floor.

I almost missed it, but there it is, we are now in Ohio.
