Bowling Green, Ohio

Back in the 60's, Don was in the Navy Seabees (CBs for Construction Battalion) and spent his 4 year operating heavy equipment so he was quite excited seeing that there was a museum of heavy equipment.

He still loves heavy equipment so he was like a little kid in a candy store when we walked into this museum.

He about went spastic when he saw this one.

I'm upset this came out a little blurred, there he is up at the controls, all smiles.

Enlarge this, worth reading how Caterpillar got it's name.

Real oldie.

Front end bucket loader like Don operated.

This is a 1948 Caterpiller D2 Traxcavator.

This is a 1943 three-wheel roller.

Again, good reading.

The big red one in the back looked complicated.

Here's Papa, Mama and Baby roller.  Don used to operate one like that middle one.

This one is so old, the wheels are all metal.

This is a truck crane like he operated in the service.

A grave yard for heavy equipment.  The big yellow ones on the right are scrapers,  Don and his buddy Jim from Tennessee used to operate these in the service.  They worked in pairs.  The lead one needed to be pushed.  It didn't have enough traction while it was scraping to move on its own.  When it was full it would go dump, then the second would get pushed either by another scraper or a bulldozer, and on it would go.
He is still excited about this visit, as bad as me after going into a large quilt shop.
