Mount Rushmore, South Dakota

There was lots to see today, first to Mount Rushmore.

We came around a bend, and here it was, our first view.

This is at the park.  We saw a video of how they engraved it.  They had to get rid of the surface stone until they got to the granite and carve into that.  The eyes were awesome, they were a carved hole except for the pupil, so it made them almost look like they were colored.

We never did see mountain goats in Yellowstone, but they had some here, fenced in.

This is a sculpture of the man who sculpted Mount Rushmore, it was done by his son.

The entrance is grand, each of these posts has 4 flags from 4 different states.  They are in order of when they were admitted into the union.

Here is the Maine flag.

And this is what's engraved into the pilar just under the flag.

We then drove through Custer State Park.

And more buffalo.

They had wild donkeys that you can feed.

They had many colors but it seemed that only the white ones were by the road.

They were really cute.

We then took a ride on the Needles Highway. That was so awesome, the road curved, had beautiful log bridges with one going over the other, a bunch of tunnels and very winding roads.

The scenery was wonderful.

This is going into one of the longest and narrowest tunnels.

And this is what it looks like on the other side.

They call this one the needle eye, doesn't it look like the eye of a needle?

Just another angle.

More tall rocks.

Check our this tunnel, right on the edge.  (so don't push)

On the way back to the campsite, we saw this sign and of course had to stop.  Great wine, had never heard of rhubarb wine.
